On 5.11. the VOLARE student group of VHS Aachen visited the Fire Brigade of the City Region Aachen. This municipal fire brigade cooperates closely with the Voluntary Fire Brigade of Aachen. The head of the training of the Voluntary Fire Brigade M. Wienold (see photo) let us see the huge amount of different equipment the Fire Brigade uses to fight against fire and to rescue people. The volunteers formation takes one year and after that a lot of ongoing training. The about 400 volunteers are working in their jobs when the emergency call arrives. Instantly they have to hurry directly from work to fire station, get on their fire truck to support the munipal fire brigade. During our stay at the fire station we were present when an emergency call came in and the fire fighters hurried to get into their protection clothes and went out with the fire truck. Also impressing was the modern fire brigade control room where the emergency calls come in and all operations are coordinated and shown on a big video map.
