Last October the10th
seven partners of the six countries involved in the project VOLARE
(Volunteering for the Reinsertion Into Action Education) met in Riga. This
project is led by the city of Gijón, through its Second Chance School, and
funded by Grundtvig Learning Partnerships, Online Lifelong Learning Programme
of the European Commission, aimed at adult continuing education.
The project called VOLARE
is currently undergoing the second phase "Improve your city
now!", Which helps the students to know their own abilities. It includes
several pilot volunteer activities which are organized in different schools. It
also conducts a campaign to raise awareness and attract young people to
volunteer activities. The international mobilities of this second phase are
related to the launch of a voluntary service.
In this context, the
partners involved in this project had a meeting in order to study and comment
on the achievements they had obtained so far, and plan the remaining trajectory
of the project to the end, in July 2015.
In the meeting, issues related to pilot volunteer experiences
that will be carried out by all delegations,
visits to NGOs and other voluntary activities that are already scheduled
as well as publications about these experiences were addressed. Activities such
as "Discover your city and Its Review resources "and" Different
volunteering activities and the required skills "and other strategic
decisions in order to maximize the benefits it can bring to the project
participants.
A different point that has been discussed at this meeting was
the mobility that will take place next.. The third mobility is happening in
Genova, Italy, from the 20th to 26th of April 2015, and the fourth
and final mobility will be in Gijon and it is expected for June 2015,
coinciding with the end of the project and its final conference.
During this meeting in Riga, the Volare Project partners have
the opportunity to enhance their experience of volunteering, through visits and
discussions with NGOs, Secondary Schools and the Department of Employment,
Education, Culture and Sports Riga City Council.
The VOLARE project aims to provide an alternative route
back to the educational system and / or the labor market, to young people aged
between 16 and 25 who have left school early or with a low level of
qualification. To achieve this goal, 7 schools involved in the project, present
an innovative methodology that combines related to active citizenship and
volunteering, through which activities the participants can improve the basic
skills to be work: communication in a foreign language; social and civic
competences; sense of initiative and entrepreneurship and digital skills.
