In November, all the students in the Second Chance School of Gijón were
summoned to be informed about the objectives and activities based on the VOLARE project. Our purpose was to encourage them to
participate in the several activities that would be developed throughout these two intense years of work related to volunteering actions.
We started our
activities with the graphic design
workshop, taught by the creative entrepeneur Alejandro Sánchez Casas
–Jano-. Thanks to this workshop the students of the Second Chance School who
were interested and committed to the project worked through different creative
processes and used them to create a logo that would represent the project.
After this part of the activity was completed, all the students took part in a contest to choose the logo (amongst the several logos that were designed) that would represent our city to be the image of the project. In March, we celebrated another voting for our students and staff to pick one of the logos proposed by the rest of the partners.

Another
sub-project was the creation of the leaflet for the “Toy Operation” campaign. This activity was developed by our students
in coordination with the association “San Nicolás de Bari”. The
main objective was the compilation, reparation and delivering of toys to the
families in need at Christmas time. Our student body had the oportunity to
cooperate directly with all the aspects of the operation, that were carried out
in the School facilities, where the students had the support of some volunteers
from the association.

We also
carried out other activities, such as: a workshop to create a questionnaire to use during the visits to the NGOs,
for the students to interview the people working there.
As a perfect culmination for the first year of the VOLARE programme, we had an
special event to commemorate the “International Volunteer day”, on
the 5th of December, where all the students in the School took part in order to
know a little more about our project and the volunteering actions that were put
into practise and those which may be performed in the future.
